Jenny Smith-McOnie

Jenny was born in Edinburgh and at a young age moved to Yorkshire, where she spent most of her childhood. She attended Leeds College of Art and Design before achieving a first class degree in Fashion Design from the University of East London in 2006.  Her training in fashion design has influenced the colourful, illustrative nature of her prints and their emphasis on texture.

After graduating Jenny worked in fashion retail buying. She began to feel creatively stifled so decided to do a part-time course in printmaking at the University of Hertfordshire. She became hooked and in 2011  took the leap to become a full time professional artist/printmaker.

Jenny lives in Bedfordshire with her husband and two house rabbits but spends much of her time in South West Scotland at her family’s home in Wigtown – Scotland’s national book town.

Inspired by the stunning natural beauty in Wigtownshire, much of her recent work explores the diverse coastal landscape of the Machars. She is particularly interested in the rich textures and constantly changing colours that can be seen in the area.
