Neil Wake is an artist based in Hitchin who works with wood. He has a lifelong passion for trees with their different sculptural forms and changing shapes. He specialises in using locally sourced timber gathered from storm damaged trees or trees that have been removed for safety reasons, making them into meaningful pieces which will continue the trees life.
His inspiration is drawn from the gnarled pieces of wood he collects. He looks carefully at the grain, and then allows their natural shape to help form the final shape of the bowl. Each piece of work is completely bespoke and like fingerprints, no two are the same.
Neil specialises in creating work that retains the natural edge of the timber. Neil says; “the wood speaks to me and each piece is different”.
