British painter Sarah Graham was born in Hitchin in 1977, and works almost exclusively with oil on canvas. She completed a BA (hons) in Fine Art painting from De Montfort University, Leicester in 2000, and has been pursuing her practice ever since. From 2001 - 2007 she exhibited at independent galleries and art fairs in the UK and overseas. In 2007 she signed with a major UK fine art publisher, and her work became widely available as limited edition prints, alongside originals, throughout the UK. As a result Sarah's paintings are in private collections across the world, including the USA, Europe, Australia, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, China and South Africa.
In 2012, Sarah was commissioned by the British band Kaiser Chiefs to paint the cover of their singles collection ‘Souvenir’, which was released worldwide. Her work is also owned by Standard Chartered Bank, who commissioned several pieces by Sarah, including a self-portrait, for their vast global collection of contemporary portraits.
Here are a few words from Sarah about her paintings for The Art Nest:
"Given the fact my studio is in Hitchin, since my show ‘Two Birds and a Bloke’ in 2013, I have been producing a new style of work exclusively for The Art Nest, finally painting a subject matter I’ve been desperate to explore for years, that of birds. Rather than an acrylic underpainting followed by refining the image in oils, I am working purely in acrylics, in a looser, more painterly style. I hope the work will appeal to my collectors given the fact I still exaggerate colour, and am either choosing brightly coloured birds, or simply setting them against bold flat colour to allow me to exploit this."
